Axel Medellin Machain - NANCYNSIMO : Biography
Here are all the lies that are my life...I was born in 1975 in Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico (and the prettiest one). I was a straight A-student until I graduated as an industrial designer, and then I decided I wanted to draw comic books and stuff for a living, which here in Mexico is almost like signing your suicide note. I blame the evil influence of John Buscema, Frank Frazetta, Kevin Nowlan, Frank Cho, Ralph McQuarrie, Syd Mead, and an unhealty dose of science fiction and movies.
I’ve worked in advertising, illustration, storyboards and comic books. I’ve been a freelancer for almost a decade now, which is all right, since if I had a boss and had to wear a tie I would have gone berserk and homicidal maniac long ago.
Here in Mexico I’ve published stories and ongoing strips in several anthologies, magazines and newspapers, besides a bit of self-publishing. I’m part of the Garage collective, mostly composed of weird people.
Illustration wise, I’ve done work for Imaginary Friends Studio, DC Licensing and others. I’ve been featured in the book Storyboards, Motion in art, and CG Chosen online magazine. I’ve done concept art for some short films and full length features that didn’t took of, so that’s a dream I still have to achieve.
My first comic book drawn for an U.S. publisher was written by Alexandro Jodorowsky, and it appeared in Metal Hurlant. Besides three stories in collab with R.G. Llarena published in Heavy Metal (so far, hopefully with more to come). I’ve done covers, stories and/or mini-series for Platinum Studios, (Incursion), Arcana Studios (Ape Entertainment (“The Ancient Pact”, in Fablewood), Zenescope (Grimm Fairy Tales, The Piper, Herbert West Chronicles, Beyond Wonderland) and Boom! Studios (Cthulhu Tales, Zombie Tales and Mr. Stuffins).
I’m part of the team behind the webcomic Earthbuilders, winner of the Zuda monthly competition. The ongoing series is updated every Tuesday at: zudacomics.com
Right now I’m happily married to the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world, and I’m most likely drawing some story. Or trying to come up with the perfect robot.
